The Commons

The Commons building on the Texas A&M campus is a hub for students—the structure stands between four Southside residence halls housing 1,500 students.

Background

The Commons – Texas A&M University Renovation

Schulte Roofing was selected to execute a complex roofing renovation for The Commons, a critical student hub connecting four Southside residence halls housing 1,500 students.

Challenges

The renovation presented unique technical challenges, including the installation of two distinct roof assemblies across different decking materials, concrete and steel, while meeting the stringent requirements of FM Global Insurance. Our approach demanded meticulous precision, including comprehensive moisture testing and detailed verification of structural compatibility.

Solutions

We successfully implemented a specialized roofing solution combining modified built-up roofing and high-performance thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) membrane. Our team completed the entire installation in under a month, carefully addressing the specific attachment requirements for each decking type while exceeding FM Global’s rigorous standards.
